Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits that he is "lucky" to have a player of David de Gea's quality and he is confident that a new contract can be agreed.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he is "positive" Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will sign a contract extension.

The Spain international has been in talks with the Red Devils over a new deal for a number of months.

De Gea is now into the final 12 months of his existing contract and is rumoured to be holding out for £350,000 a week from United, a figure which would make him the best-paid keeper in the world.

Despite recent rumours that an impasse has been reached in talks, Solskjaer is confident that fresh terms will be agreed.

"David has had a summer where he's been negotiating and we hope we're going to get it sorted," he told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.

"I'm positive. Of course, with David I've said many times how lucky I am and happy we are to have him in goal."

De Gea, touted as a target for French champions Paris Saint-Germain, has won United's Player of the Year award four times in his eight years at the club.
