Middlesbrough back to winning ways after seeing off Bolton Wanderers

Middlesbrough keep up their promotion challenge by beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0 in their Championship match at the Riverside.

Middlesbrough have ended a run of three games without a win by beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0 in their Championship match this evening.

Lee Tomlin fired a strike wide early on as the hosts made the brighter start to the match.

Bolton had a chance of their own soon after, but Dorian Dervite could not direct his header on target from Barry Bannan's free kick.

Patrick Bamford then blazed over and Tomlin saw a powerful shot blocked as Middlesbrough continued to dominate.

Bamford came close again on the half-hour mark with a close-range strike that was kept out by Ben Amos.

Boro finally took the lead four minutes later when Albert Adomah latched on to Tomlin's through-ball and slotted past the keeper.

Boro had further chances to double their lead before half time, but Saidy Janko saw an effort saved and Bamford blazed over the bar.

Early in the second half Bamford had yet another chance to score, but after being picked out by George Friend, he could only drag an effort wide of the target.

Just past the hour mark Bolton almost levelled the scores when Dervite's header was cleared off the line.

The hosts then came close to adding a second when Tomlin hit the bar in the final minute, but their one-goal lead proved enough as they claimed the points to stay second in the Championship table.
