Newcastle Jets edge out Melbourne Victory

Nathan Burns strikes twice as Newcastle Jets edge out the challenge of Melbourne Victory 2-1 in the A-League.

Newcastle Jets have secured a hard-fought 2-1 win at Melbourne Victory in the A-League.

The encounter looked poised to be headed for a half-time stalemate, only for Nathan Burns to pounce for the visitors and fire Jets into the lead on 44 minutes.

Jets did not boast the advantage for long, as James Troisi levelled matters six minutes into the second half.

However, Burns was on hand once more to edge his team ahead in the contest and, despite the best efforts of Victory, the hosts failed to restore parity and Gary van Egmond's men held out for the win.
