Alan Pardew confident Rob Elliot can step up

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew admits that he has confidence that Rob Elliot can step up to replace the injured Tim Krul for his side over the next six weeks.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he has full faith in the ability of Rob Elliot to deputise for the injured Tim Krul.

The Dutchman has been ruled out for up to six weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during a training session, which forced Elliot into action in his side's defeat to West Ham United.

Pardew told the club's official website: "Robbie certainly needed that game at West Ham on Saturday because he hadn't played for a while, and that's where those games in the League Cup are very, very important.

"We've chopped and changed our team for the last seven games and we've won six of them, so we don't fear it. Robbie is more than capable of deputising for Tim and we wish him well."

Newcastle face Burnley in their Premier League clash later today.
