Loic Remy to miss start of season

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew reveals that new signing Loic Remy will miss the start of the season with a calf injury.

Newcastle United's new signing Loic Remy will miss the start of the season due to a calf injury, according to boss Alan Pardew.

The French striker made the move to St James' Park from Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan, though he will miss the opening fixture against Manchester City.

Pardew insisted that it is not a serious injury, but said that there is "no chance" of him making the start of the season.

"It's just a strain, but it's an area that is stopping him from running at the moment," Pardew told the Newcastle Chronicle.

"We need to get some work into him. There is no chance of him making Man City.

"Whether there is a chance of him playing against West Ham in the next game is something we will have to suck and see as we go along."

Remy scored six goals in 14 appearances for QPR last season.
