Fabricio Coloccini's second-half header helps Newcastle United earn a 1-1 draw against Braga in a friendly at St James' Park.

Newcastle United have continued their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw against Braga at St James' Park.

The Magpies named a strong side for their final friendly of the summer, with Papiss Cisse, Shola Ameobi and Hatem Ben Arfa all included in Alan Pardew's starting lineup.

Loic Remy was introduced to Newcastle fans before the match got underway, with Cisse quickly testing Braga goalkeeper Eduardo when play began.

Ameobi also went to close to breaking the deadlock in an end-to-end first half, as the forward hooked a Jonas Gutierrez past the far post with his heel.

Just before the interval Braga broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after Mathieu Debuchy was found guilty of a foul in the area.

Alan made no mistake with the spot kick, sending Newcastle into the break a goal down.

Pardew made three changes at half time and got a positive response from his side, with Yohan Cabaye helping push Braga deep into their own half.

On 60 minutes Newcastle drew level from an unlikely source, as captain Fabricio Coloccini guided headed home from Ben Arfa's corner kick.

Yoan Gouffran thought that he had netted a winner five minutes from time, but his header was ruled out for offside as Newcastle were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw.
