Alan Pardew admits that Jose Enrique is determined to play Champions League football.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has admitted that Jose Enrique may push through a move away from St James' Park after contract talks came to a halt.

The Spanish full-back and the North East club have failed to reach an agreement over a new contract and Pardew claims that he may be forced to sell the unsettled player.

Speculation has also surrounded Joey Barton, who was previously linked with a move to Arsenal. However, Pardew is confident that he can keep hold of the midfielder.

"The big difference between the two is that Joey seems pretty focused on Newcastle, whereas the noises coming out of Jose's camp are that he wants to get a new club playing Champions League football,” sportinglife.com quotes the manager as saying.

"Unfortunately we can't offer him that but that seems to be his focus. Hopefully that will change but we've offered him a massive contract which he does not want to sign, so it's a difficult position.

"There have been no concrete offers. But if he goes, it is going to leave a big hole in the team. It would need filling quickly."
