Alan Pardew has moved to make Swansea City’s Neil Taylor his first signing of the summer for Newcastle.
Swans chairman Huw Jenkins confirmed to the club’s website that an undisclosed bid had been received for the Welsh international but discussions have yet to take place.
“We have received a number of enquiries from different clubs for Neil’s services and, like all bids we receive for any of our players, we will be talking it over with him when he returns from a break next week,” he explained.
Jenkins said that Taylor had been brought to Liberty Stadium with a view to cultivating his skills as a longer-term investment. “The last thing on our mind was to sell anyone over the summer,” he added.
The 22-year-old, who is under a three-year-contract is a potential replacement for left-back Jose Enrique if he makes a move to Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Newcastle’s Kevin Nolan has declined a new deal proposal and Alan Smith has been told he can leave the club.
