Michael Flynn hoping to send Middlesbrough tumbling out of FA Cup

Newport go to Boro in the fourth round on Saturday.

Newport boss Michael Flynn is aiming to see Middlesbrough tumble out of the FA Cup after taking one himself this week.

The Exiles go to the Riverside in the fourth round on Saturday after Leicester slipped up against them earlier this month.

Newport's 2-1 win against the Foxes was the first time they had knocked out a top-flight side since 1964 and only one minor spill has hurt their plans for another upset.

Flynn said: "The build-up has been all right this week until I got out of my car, slipped on ice and fell over.

"It's been really good, they had a really good session yesterday and it's been nice going into it on the back of a win (1-0 against Exeter on Saturday).

"It's been all right so far but I'm not going to get carried away because I'm sure something will happen before the game on Saturday.

"They're in the play-off positions and they will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season because (Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis) is proven and he's got good players.

"Everyone wants something instantly these days, everyone's a football manager, everyone can win games and play an attractive style of football so I don't take notice of any pressure Tony might be under.

"We have to go there and frustrate them, we have to start brightly, stick to our game plan then have courage in our convictions to pass the ball and move them about, let's hope we create some good chances and take them."

Newport have lost to Crewe and beaten Exeter since their win over Leicester and sit 13th in Sky Bet League Two, seven points adrift of the play-offs.

Flynn added: "We have to perform, it will be a little bit different, it will be a physical battle, we have to defend well and pick up second balls.

"Tony's teams are always fit, strong, they are full of good players and they do play football. He gets tarnished with a certain style of play but he wins football matches."
