Alex Neil: 'Bradley Johnson sale best for both sides'

Norwich City manager Alex Neil believes that selling midfielder Bradley Johnson was best for both parties.

Norwich City manager Alex Neil has said that the sale of Bradley Johnson was best for both parties involved.

The midfielder was voted the Canaries' Player of the Year last season but joined Championship side Derby County for a deal potentially rising to £7m on transfer deadline day.

The 28-year-old made just one appearance at the start of the club's Premier League campaign, and Neil admitted that despite Johnson's contribution to the team in the 2014-15 season, the decision to allow him to leave was in the best interests of the club.

The 34-year-old told reporters: "I had a chat with Bradley, there was no fallout, I spoke to him and wished him all the best and thanked him for everything he had done. We left on good terms.

"The fact is they came in with a good offer, I had a discussion with Bradley, he was under no pressure at all to leave the club but it was in the best interests of both parties."

Johnson has played twice in the Championship since joining the Rams, helping them achieve back-to-back away wins.
