Chris Hughton: 'We have enough to stay up'

Chris Hughton maintains that Norwich City are capable of staying in the Premier League.

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton has maintained that his side are capable of staying in the Premier League, despite today's defeat against Southampton.

The Canaries found themselves 3-0 down with five minutes remaining, but two goals in the space of a minute left them in with a chance at St Mary's Stadium.

It was not to be, however, and a Sam Gallagher goal in the dying seconds condemned Hughton's men to another loss, leaving them four points above the relegation zone.

"Yes the side is capable [of staying up]," the 55-year-old is quoted as saying by Goal.com. "We know it's tough as our form has been very up and down and very inconsistent, but we certainly have enough capabilities.

"They were certainly far better than us today. We conceded three poor goals and gave ourselves a mountain to climb, but we did get the two late goals.

"So if I'm looking for [positives], we showed character to get back in the game irrespective of whether we deserved it."

Norwich return to action next weekend when they host fellow strugglers Sunderland.
