The Philadelphia Union earned their third win of the MLS season as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over 10-man Chivas USA.
The visitors were gifted the chance to take the lead in the 28th minute when Martin Rivero handled in the box. Conor Casey took the spot kick and fired the ball hard past Dan Kennedy into the bottom corner.
Philadelphia pressed again and Fred almost got a second for his side when he tried to lift a header over Kennedy, but the keeper got just enough on the ball to divert it away from goal.
Erick Torres had the home side's best chance of the half as he beat two men down the right before firing a shot across the face of goal, which was well saved by Zac MacMath.
After the break, the Union doubled their lead when Cristian Maidana lifted a pinpoint cross into the box for Casey to attack, and the striker made no mistake heading past Kennedy.
Fabinho should have added a third for the visitors when he raided into the box down the left, but he couldn't fire his shot on target with just Kennedy to beat.
The Union did get their third in the 76th minute when Maidana found space down the left and cut back into the box before placing the ball into the bottom corner.
Chivas ended the game with 10 men when Oswaldo Minda was given a straight red card for kicking out at Maurice Edu as the Union eased to a simple victory.
