Laurent Blanc lauds battling Paris Saint-Germain

PSG coach Laurent Blanc hails his side's resilience after striking late to down a spirited APOEL side in Nicosia on Tuesday night.

Laurent Blanc has hailed the fighting spirit of his Paris Saint-Germain team after they left it late to beat APOEL 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Edinson Cavani spared Les Parisiens' blushes with an 86th-minute winner after the Group F minnows had comfortably repelled everything that Blanc's side threw at them in Cyprus.

The Cypriots even spurned a number of chances prior to Cavani's strike, and the Frenchman admits that his side were "fortunate" to win the game.

"My players didn't give up and kept fighting right until the end," Blanc told reporters. "It could have gone either way but we were fortunate to take the three points.

"My team were positive on the pitch. We played against a good, organised, defensive team but also one that is dangerous and could have scored.

"It's not for me to say whether or not we deserved the win but I can say that it was important for us to get three points."

The victory saw the French giants maintain their place at the summit of Group F on seven points, two clear of Barcelona in second.
