Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has lavished praise on his players following their 8-0 dismantling of Malmo in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted four and Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick as the Spaniards consolidated the top spot in Group A with a resounding victory.

"I am very happy for the team and for all the Madrid fans. We have taken a step further," he told reporters.

"We have five straight wins and I think that's very positive. It is a great satisfaction for all and this victory must serve to strengthen us."

Mateo Kovacic also got his name on the scoresheet during the eight-goal rout.
