Klaas-Jan Huntelaar: "No defending" Schalke 04 performance

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar believes that Schalke 04 made too many mistakes against Real Madrid and were punished by the Spanish side.

Schalke 04 striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has slammed his side for their performance in the 6-1 home defeat to Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Huntelaar said that although Schalke started brightly they made far too many mistakes throughout the 90 minutes and now stand very little chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

"We played well in the first quarter of an hour, but if you make mistakes like we did it's always going to be difficult," he told UEFA.com. "We all know that, but we need to work hard to make sure that next time it doesn't happen.

"We had a good chance early on when Julian Draxler could have equalised, but, to be honest, there's no defending the mistakes we made. My goal didn't help much - it was 6-1 after all. Now we need to win 6-0 at their place. That's not going to be easy. In fact, it's pretty impossible."

Huntelaar scored the final goal on the night when his side were already 6-0 down.
