Real Madrid team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Athletic Bilbao

Sports Mole rounds up all of Real Madrid's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.

Real Madrid will aim to extend their lead at the top of the La Liga table when they welcome Athletic Bilbao to the capital on Wednesday night.

Carlo Ancelotti's men had to come from behind to beat Sevilla 2-1 last time out, as Rafa Mir's strike was cancelled out by Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior.

Los Blancos have now opened up a four-point lead at the summit and will stay there no matter what transpires this week, but Ancelotti will be wary of the likes of Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Real Madrid's injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

David Alaba

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: December 1 (vs. Athletic)

David Alaba was restricted to individual training on Tuesday, but he has made the squad for Wednesday's game and could therefore earn some minutes, albeit maybe as a substitute.

Dani Ceballos

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Dani Ceballos sustained a nasty ankle injury during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with Spain and will not be ready to feature in midweek.

Eden Hazard

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: December 1 (vs. Athletic)

Eden Hazard was not available to face Sevilla due to gastroenteritis, but there is hope that he may be passed fit for this contest.

Gareth Bale

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: Unknown

Gareth Bale continues to nurse a calf problem and is not expected to be ready for the Athletic test, but he should return at some point before Christmas.

Rodrygo

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: December 1 (vs. Athletic)

Rodrygo was a last-minute withdrawal from the squad at the weekend due to gastroenteritis, so the Brazilian attacker has emerged as a slight doubt for this contest.
