Carlos Queiroz proud of changes made at Real Madrid

Ex-Real Madrid manager Carlos Queiroz says that he is delighted his former club have changed their way of thinking to allow Jose Mourinho to achieve success in Spain.

Former Real Madrid manager Carlos Queiroz has said that he is proud of the change in attitude at the club compared to his time in charge.

Queiroz was Madrid boss for just ten months, and was sacked after ending the 2003-04 season in fourth place.

The former Manchester United assistant believes that a change in attitudes and direction have allowed the Spanish giants to flourish under Jose Mourinho.

He told FIFA.com: "We suffered because of a bad policy on the part of the President, which consisted of selling players without addressing the technical needs of the team.

"He refused to listen to [former general manager Jorge] Valdano and me. The emphasis was placed on recruiting stars, which destabilised the squad, cost the club millions and led to the sacking of several coaches.

"I'm delighted with the policy of the President now, who listens to the coach and heeds advice. As a result, the club have won two important titles in the last two years."

Queiroz is currently manager of Iran as they aim to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
