Real Madrid will hand Keylor Navas a new contract despite the Costa Rica international losing his position as the club's number one goalkeeper, according to a report.

Real Madrid will reportedly hand Keylor Navas a new contract despite the Costa Rica international losing his position as the club's number one goalkeeper.

Navas joined Madrid from Levante in the summer of 2014 and became the club's number one stopper for the 2015-16 campaign, holding that role until Thibaut Courtois arrived at the Bernabeu this summer.

The player has made seven first-team appearances for Madrid this season, although just two of those have come in La Liga, and his future with the club has been called into question.

However, according to ABC, Madrid are desperate to retain healthy competition between their two goalkeepers, and will hand Navas a new contract until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

The 31-year-old has played in three of Madrid's four Champions League matches this season.
