Academica de Coimbra fall to sixth straight league defeat at Rio Ave

Renan Bressan's first-half goal helps Rio Ave secure a 1-0 win over Academica de Coimbra in Monday night's Primeira Liga clash at the Estadio do Rio Ave FC.

Academica de Coimbra have slumped to a sixth Primeira Liga defeat in a row against Rio Ave, who clinched a 1-0 win in Monday night's game at the Estadio do Rio Ave FC.

Belarusian Renan Bressan opened his side's scoring in the 35th minute with a ferocious strike from range that left goalkeeper Pedro Trigueira helpless.

Though the visitors had chances to get back into the game, they lacked edge in the final third as the Vila do Conde outfit secured all three points.

The result sees the hosts climb to sixth place in the Primeira Liga table, while Academica remain rooted to the foot of the division.
