Roma storm past Torino

Roma close the gap on Juventus with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Torino in Serie A.

Roma have closed the gap on Serie A leaders Juventus to three points by cruising to a 3-0 victory over Torino.

The hosts broke the deadlock in just the eighth minute when Francesco Totti found space on the right wing before delivering an inviting cross to allow Vasilis Torosidis to fire home from close range.

Torino struggled to threaten the home defence in the first half, and they were fortunate not to fall further behind when Miralem Pjanic rattled the crossbar with a powerful free kick.

However, the visitors would soon run out of luck as Seydou Keita took advantage of space on the edge of the box before drilling a shot into the bottom corner to extend the Roma lead.

Totti was proving to be a constant threat for his side, and he went close to making it 3-0 before the break with a powerful effort which drifted just wide.

Roma would put the result beyond doubt two minutes before the hour mark when Adem Ljajic followed a clever turn on the edge of the box with a stunning strike to give Jean-Francois Gillet no chance of preventing Torino from falling further behind.

Rudi Garcia's side continued to dominate possession for long spells as Torino's misfiring attack struggled to trouble the Roma defenders.

Gervinho thought he had extended Roma's advantage late on with a clever finish from close range, but an offside flag prevented the hosts from securing a wider margin of victory.
