Kevin Prince-Boateng brace helps Schalke 04 beat Bremen

Schalke 04 come from behind to beat Werder Bremen 3-1 to go fifth in the Bundesliga, thanks to a late brace from Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Schalke 04 have recovered from a slow start to beat Werder Bremen and stay fifth in the Bundesliga, thanks largely to a second-half brace from summer signing Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The hosts were slow to start and were punished for a lapse in concentration after 22 minutes when Roman Neustadter's attempted back-pass was seized upon by Felix Kroos, who made no mistake in breaking the deadlock from close range.

Neustadter nearly atoned for his error soon after as he hammered just over the top from 18 yards, with the hosts frustrated as Julian Draxler had a free kick blocked away before Adam Szalai flicked wide from eight yards.

Schalke continued to press after the interval and levelled on 65 minutes through Boateng, who headed home after meeting a curling cross from Draxler at the far post.

Jens Keller then made a positive late change as he introduced Jefferson Farfan 15 minutes from time. That gamble paid off as his side scored twice in the closing stages to claim all three points.

Boateng was the hero as another powerful header found the net following fine approach play from Christian Fuchs, before Farfan met Draxler's cutback to put the game beyond doubt in stoppage time.
