Scotland boss Craig Levein believes that there are "positive things" to take from his side's failed attempt to qualify for Euro 2012.

Scotland boss Craig Levein has admitted that he is "happy" with his team despite a crushing loss to World Cup winners Spain in the Euro 2012 qualifier last night.

The Scottish side were knocked out of the European Championships after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Spain in Alicante.

Despite crashing out of the competition, Levein believes that his team have a lot to be optimistic about.

"I think there's every reason for people to think we're going to get better," Levein told BBC Scotland.

"I'm happy with how we're progressing. It was a tall order, but Spain were at the top of their game."

While the 46-year-old's position as manager is reportedly safe despite being out of the Euros, Levein is eager to lead his team to success in the future.

"I'm enjoying my job," he added. "This was a fantastic occasion and being manager of the Scottish national team is something I'm extremely proud of.

"I'm disappointed that we didn't get anything from the game, but in keeping with the second half of the campaign, I see a lot of positives things."

Scotland finished third in Group I of the Euro 2012 qualifying stage.
