Sheffield United storm to top of Championship table

Sheffield United have moved above Wolverhampton Wanderers to the top of the Championship table courtesy of a 3-1 win at Burton Albion.

Billy Sharp scored twice for the Blades, while Leon Clarke was also on the scoresheet for a team that have now been victorious in five of their last six league matches.

Sharp sent the visitors ahead from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after being fouled by Kyle McFadzean inside the area.

The response from Burton was positive, however, and they levelled the scores in the 31st minute when Matt Palmer found the top corner with a brilliant 25-yard strike.

The hosts were only level for three minutes though as Sharp netted his second of the evening with a fine effort past Stephen Bywater.

Clarke hit the post late in the first period as Sheffield United threatened a third, but the 32-year-old had to wait until the 79th minute to get his name on the scoresheet - heading home from close range as the points were sealed.

Chris Wilder's side have now won 12 of their 17 Championship matches this season to top the table by one point, while Burton's 10th league defeat of the 2017-18 campaign has left them down in 21st position - just one point outside of the bottom three.
