Peter Schmeichel wants Sheffield United job

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel wants the vacant Sheffield United job, according to reports.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has reportedly lodged an interest in becoming the next Sheffield United manager.

Schmeichel has completed his coaching badges and believes that Bramall Lane could provide the perfect platform to cut his teeth as a head coach, according to The Mirror.

The 49-year-old is currently searching for his first opportunity as a coach, following a distinguished playing career which included eight seasons at Old Trafford and 129 caps for Denmark.

United are searching for a new boss after sacking David Weir last week, following just one win in League One during his 10 matches in charge.

Former Blades captain Chris Morgan has taken temporary charge of first-team affairs, but despite a late fightback led United to a 3-2 defeat against Coventry City this afternoon.
