Sheffield Wednesday halt managerial interviews to give Stuart Gray a chance

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric says that he will stop interviewing potential managers to ensure that interim boss Stuart Gray fully focuses on the team.

Sheffield Wednesday have stopped interviewing managerial candidates to ensure that interim manager Stuart Gray feels he has a good chance of securing a permanent position, chairman Milan Mandaric has said.

It is now over two weeks since Dave Jones was sacked as Wednesday manager and caretaker boss Gray has led the Owls to six out of nine points from the three games he has been in charge.

Mandaric is said to want someone permanently in charge by the New Year and that gives Gray the chance to earn a full-time position with the busy Christmas period coming up.

Mandaric told the Yorkshire Post: "There is no further moves as we have to be stable going forward and give Stuart Gray a proper chance.

"If I go to interview people, and report to our supporters, that would not look good. For that reason, we are stopping the process, until we decide if Stuart is going to take the permanent role. That's where we are.

"Stuart has done well, he's a very good coach, and we will see how good he is."

Gray's two victories over Leicester and Watford have lifted Wednesday off the bottom of the table and within one point of safety.
