Sheffield Wednesday to 'approach' Roy Keane

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric says that he is looking at the possibility of approaching Roy Keane to become the Owls' manager.

Sheffield Wednesday could ask the Irish FA to talk to Roy Keane over their vacant manager's post, chairman Milan Mandaric has said.

The Owls have been without a manager for a week now after Dave Jones had his contract terminated by the club.

Mandaric is quoted in The Times as saying that Keane, who became assistant to Martin O'Neill with the Republic of Ireland only a month ago, is a possible target.

"If I am going to do anything with Roy, I will have to call the federation (FAI) and see if I can get a chance to talk to him," said Mandaric.

"You have to go through the channels for something like that. I will probably look into that.

"Roy took the job with Martin O'Neill so it would be difficult to move him out of there. I would like to look at him. He has a superb personality and won promotion with Sunderland. I am going to look at the situation."

Former Manchester United captain Keane, 42, has not managed a team since he was sacked by Ipswich Town in 2011.
