Team News: Nathan Redmond starts for Southampton

Nathan Redmond makes his Southampton debut against Watford for their opening match of the 2016-7 season.

Nathan Redmond makes his Southampton debut against Watford this afternoon as Claude Puel and Walter Mazzarri both oversee their first games in the Premier League.

Puel starts former Norwich City man Redmond up front with Shane Long, while fellow newcomers Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg, Alex McCarthy and Jeremy Pied begin the game on the bench.

The strike partnership of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney provide the threat for the visitors in a Hornets XI devoid of any summer arrivals.

Jerome Sinclair makes the bench, but Isaac Success and Brice Dja Djedje are ruled out by foot and leg injuries respectively.

Southampton: Forster, Cedric, Yoshida, Van Dijk, Targett, Davis, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Redmond, Tadic, Long
Subs: McCarthy, Clasie, Fonte, Rodriguez, Austin, Hojbjerg, Pied

Watford: Gomes; Cathcart, Prödl, Britos; Amrabat, Capoue, Behrami, Guedioura, Holebas; Deeney, Ighalo
Subs: Pantilimon, Nyom, Zuniga, Sinclair, Vydra, Anya, Watson
