England could be forced to play its home friendly with Italy over in Switzerland.

England could be forced to play their first home game of the new season overseas due to a fixture clash with the Olympics.

The FA have a friendly clash with Italy scheduled for August 15, but stadia such as Wembley and Old Trafford will be in use then.

Neutral turf in Berne, Switzerland is being lined up as a potential venue for the game, The Mirror understands.

England played a 'home' match against Argentina in the Swiss capital of Geneva in 2005, and took on Brazil in Qatar four years later.

The Italy friendly could be the first game in charge for Fabio Cappello's successor, widely tipped to be Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Redknapp.
