Andre Villas-Boas: 'Players inspired by solid defence'

Andre Villas-Boas says that Tottenham Hotspur are taking heart from their solid defence this season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has praised his players for keeping a record seven clean sheets in their 10 Premier League games this season.

In total, the North London club have conceded just five goals, which is second only to Southampton.

"Everyone deserves credit for that, it's good for the confidence and should be taken as something positive," the Portuguese told the club's official website.

"The players all take inspiration from it. We hope it can continue. It will be difficult against some of the teams that are coming along."

Another clean sheet against Sheriff Tiraspol will make it six in a row in Europe, equalling the record they set in winning the UEFA Cup in 1972.
