Mauricio Pochettino: 'Son Heung-min deserves more credit'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino says that winger Son Heung-min deserves more credit after Harry Kane took much of the Spurs limelight in 2017 with his goalscoring form.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that winger Son Heung-min deserves more credit after Harry Kane took much of the Spurs limelight in 2017 with his goalscoring form.

Kane, who scored 39 goals in 36 Premier League games last year, has been the standout player for Pochettino's team in both the current campaign and last term.

South Korea international Son, however, is a vital part of the Spurs camp and deserves more praise, according to Argentine boss Pochettino.

"When you talk about [David] Beckham, he's a massive world icon," the manager told the Evening Standard. "Maybe it's like this with Sonny. But here he's so humble, and he's such a normal guy. That makes him so important to us.

"I think he's such an important player for us, scoring a lot of goals and he's very consistent, in training, his performance. He's an important and very good player for us.

"It's true that the headlines are always for Harry or others, but it's important to recognise him, because he's a very great guy, a very good professional and he's always there, scoring and playing well."

Son, who has scored five goals in his last seven outings in all competitions, could feature in Spurs' top-flight fixture against Swansea City on Tuesday evening.
