Tim Sherwood hails Tottenham Hotspur "legend" Jermain Defoe

Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood describes Jermain Defoe as a 'club legend' and hints that the England forward may not have played his last game at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood has described Jermain Defoe as a 'club legend'.

Defoe, who has scored 143 goals during two spells at Spurs, will leave the London outfit to join MLS franchise Toronto later this month.

The 31-year-old was carried off the pitch by teammates Emmanuel Adebayor and Jan Vertonghen following Tottenham's 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday, leading many people to believe that he has played his last game at White Hart Lane.

However, Sherwood has hinted that the England international could feature in his side's home Europa League clash with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on February 27 - the day before he officially joins Toronto.

"He's a bit early – he's not due to go yet," Sherwood told reporters.

"But if he got 10 standing ovations, it wouldn't be enough. He's been a legend at this club – if I was him, I'd still be out there milking it."

Tottenham's next three fixtures are away from White Hart Lane. They travel to Newcastle United on Wednesday, before jetting off to the Ukraine to face Dnipro eight days later, quickly followed by a trip to Norwich City.
