Tottenham Hotspur 'to cancel Gedson Fernandes's loan deal'

Tottenham Hotspur will cancel Gedson Fernandes's loan deal at the club, with the midfielder set to return to Benfica, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to cancel Gedson Fernandes's loan deal at the club.

The 21-year-old joined the Premier League giants from Benfica in January on an 18-month loan, with Spurs having the option of signing the midfielder on a permanent basis for a fee in the region of £46m.

Fernandes has found it difficult to make his mark for Jose Mourinho's side, though, featuring on just 13 occasions in all competitions, while he has played just once for the club this term.

According to A Bola, Benfica and Spurs are close to reaching an agreement which would see the midfielder return to the Portuguese club.

Fernandes has only made the bench in one of Tottenham's 13 Premier League matches this season, while his only minutes came against Chelsea in the fourth round of the EFL Cup at the end of September.

The Portugal international has scored three times and registered seven assists in 59 outings for Benfica.
