Real Madrid assistant coach Zinedine Zidane says that the club still intend to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Real Madrid assistant coach Zinedine Zidane has revealed that the club still intend to pursue Gareth Bale, despite Tottenham Hotspur rejecting their bid for the Welshman.

The Spanish giants reportedly made a world record-breaking £86m bid for the PFA Player of the Year that was turned down by Spurs over the weekend.

A recent report claimed that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is looking for £100m for Bale, but Zidane has said that Los Blancos are not perturbed by Spurs' refusal to do business.

"We have not given up on Gareth Bale – it is impossible to give up a player of that quality," The Mirror quotes Zidane as saying.

"It is ideal to get any new players in as early as possible so they can integrate with the team – but it is not always possible and the best players are worth waiting for. Of course Tottenham are doing the right thing by trying to get him to sign a new contract.

"We have made it clear he is a target, but Real Madrid have a very good relationship with Tottenham so we would make sure any approach is done in the correct way."

Bale enjoyed an impressive season for Tottenham in 2012-13, winning both the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year award en route to scoring 21 goals in the Premier League.
