Billy Jones: 'We have to kick on from Newcastle United win'

Sunderland defender Billy Jones is adamant that his side have to kick on from their victory over Newcastle United to retain their Premier League status for next season.

Sunderland defender Billy Jones believes that his side have to take the momentum gained from their win over Newcastle United into their remaining matches this season.

The Black Cats earned their fifth win in a row over the Tynesiders to boost their survival chances in the Premier League, and the right-back is adamant that he and his teammates have to back up their efforts from the victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

"We spoke about the need to just win before the match but I think the standard of performance was also there to see," Jones told the club's official website.

"The commitment and the work-rate shown by the team was clear and our desire to win the ball back and make things happen really showed.

"It was another great derby performance from us and we were made up with the result, so hopefully we can take that momentum into Saturday's game against Crystal Palace."

Sunderland are 15th in the Premier League, three points clear of the relegation zone.
