Team News: Adam Johnson fails to make Sunderland squad for Stoke City trip

Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat opts against selecting Sunderland winger Adam Johnson for their game at Stoke City.

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has not been named in the matchday squad to face Stoke City this afternoon.

Johnson was charged with sexual activity with a child under 16 this week, but remains available to the first team.

Manager Dick Advocaat said that he would only select Johnson if he is mentally fit to play, but the winger has not been included.

They have made two changes to their side as winger Will Buckley and defender Sebastian Coates start, while Santiago Vergini and Steven Fletcher miss out.

Stoke welcome Peter Odemwingie back for the first time since he injured his knee in August, and he starts on the bench.

Charlie Adam replaces Glenn Whelan in midfield, while Mame Biram Diouf continues to start up front ahead of Peter Crouch.

Stoke City: Begovic, Cameron, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Pieters, N'Zonzi, Adam, Walters, Ireland, Arnautovic, Diouf

Sunderland: Pantilimon, O'Shea, Coates, Jones, van Aanholt, Cattermole, Rodwell, Gomez, Wickham, Buckley, Defoe
Subs: Bridcutt, Reveillere, Mannone, Vergini, Graham, Honeyman, Agnew
