Carlos Carvalhal: 'Swansea City don't need a miracle'

New manager Carlos Carvalhal says that Swansea City do not need a "miracle" or "divine help" to be able to remain in the Premier League.

New manager Carlos Carvalhal has claimed that Swansea City are capable of remaining in the Premier League.

On Thursday, Carvalhal was named as the permanent successor to Paul Clement, and the former Sheffield Wednesday boss must now try to make up the five-point deficit to 17th place in the Premier League standings.

However, despite the club's poor form during the first half of the campaign, Carvalhal insists that his team do not need a "miracle" or "divine help" to stay in the top flight.

The Portuguese told the club's official website: "In this moment, maybe if you ask 100 people who follow football, they will say Swansea are going to get relegate. This is the general idea. Maybe some people will say we need a miracle. But when things are in the hands of men, it's not a miracle you need.

"It's in our hands and we can manage things. We don't need divine help. We need strong commitment to move things forward. I promise we will try very hard to change things around."

Carvalhal's first game in charge of the Swans comes at Watford on Saturday afternoon.
