Swansea City draw with Borussia Monchengladbach

Matt Grimes earns Swansea City a 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach in the opening match of their pre-season tour of Germany.

Swansea City have started their pre-season tour of Germany with a 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Bundesliga side almost took the lead inside the opening minute, but Lukasz Fabianski was alert enough to deny Marlon Ritter.

Monchengladbach turned their early dominance into a goal on 14 minutes when Ibrahima Traore cut in from the right before curling the ball into the far corner.

Swansea responded positively to going behind, and they came close to making it 1-1 just two minutes later as Kyle Bartley headed over the crossbar.

The chances continued to fall for the Premier League team, with Franck Tabanou volleying wide before Bafetimbi Gomis headed off target from a Gylfi Sigurdsson corner.

Meanwhile, summer signing Andre Ayew threatened towards the end of the opening half when he sliced into the arms of the goalkeeper after being put through by Tabanou.

Monchengladbach had a good opportunity to double their advantage during the opening minutes of the second period, but Branimir Hrgota blasted over the crossbar from 15 yards.

Having made 11 changes with an hour on the clock, Swansea got themselves level on 68 minutes as Matt Grimes slotted the ball calmly into the net following Wayne Routledge's cross.

The Swans almost snatched a winner with five minutes left, only for summer signing Eder to narrowly miss getting on the end of Routledge's cross.
