Swansea City: 'Spain call increases Michu value'

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins believes that Michu's maiden Spain call-up has increased his value in the transfer market.

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has warned potential suitors that Michu's call-up for the Spanish national side has increased the club's valuation of their star striker.

Michu was handed his maiden international call by Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque ahead of this week's final round of World Cup qualifiers, following the withdrawal of David Villa through injury.

Jenkins believes that Michu's worth is now comparable to some of the world's top forwards, but remains adamant that they have no plans to sell their prized asset anytime soon.

He told the Daily Mail: "We've seen with Tottenham and Gareth Bale that every player has a price. We are not in that bracket with Tottenham but they sold a top player. We are realistic about that side of things.

"I would say Michael Laudrup was about right with his valuation of Michu if you look at the current market, but this call-up enhances that further.

"We know we have a very talented player and naturally we want to keep him."

The 27-year-old, who is under contract at the Liberty Stadium until 2016, has scored 27 goals in 54 appearances since signing for Swansea last summer.
