Troy Deeney scores winner as Watford beat Dundee United

Troy Deeney scores the winner as Watford beat Dundee United in a pre-season encounter.

Watford's pre-season continued in a positive fashion as they beat Dundee United 1-0 this afternoon.

The Premier League side missed a host of first-half chances as new signing Jurado failed to convert an Ikechi Anya cross, while Odion Ighalo forced the keeper into a low save.

Ighalo missed two further chances to score, as he shot over the bar from eight yards and was then denied by a diving save from the keeper.

However, the Hornets finally took the lead shortly after the break when Jurado crossed for Troy Deeney to power a header into the back of the net.

They almost doubled their lead minutes later as Almen Abdi latched on to the end of a Matej Vydra pass and fired over the bar.

Both sides made multiple changes as the half wore on and this seemed to help Dundee, who started to push higher up the pitch.

Charlie Telfer had their best chance with a whipped free kick, which forced Giedrius Arlauskis into a sprawling save, while Chris Erksine also forced him to prevent his shot from going in.

However, Watford held on to register another pre-season win.
