West Brom and Bolton have stolen a march on Arsenal in the race for New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream, after they both agreed to take the American on trial.
The Gunners are long-term admirers of Ream, after scouting him several times last season, but the player himself is keen on a move where he will be guaranteed first-team football.
The 24-year-old will therefore begin his stint with West Brom next week while he will also spend time with Bolton, who are believed to be ready to offer him a loan switch in January.
Ream is valued at £4m by the New York Red Bulls, who have already reportedly turned down a series of offers in the region of £3m.
