Hull City miss out on Shane Long, resign Gedo instead

Hull City fail in their attempts to recruit West Brom striker Shane Long, but do re-sign Egyptian international striker on a season-long loan deal.

Hull City have re-signed Egyptian international striker Gedo, after West Bromwich Albion pulled out of the agreement to sell them Shane Long.

The Baggies were prepared to let Ireland's first-choice frontman leave, if they could sign their own forward targets, Everton's Victor Anichebe or former loanee Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

However, Lukaku, who starred in his one-year spell at The Hawthorns last season, instead opted to temporarily join Everton, whose negotiations with West Brom over Anichebe's potential sale were ongoing when the transfer window shut at 11pm.

The Midlands outfit were therefore unwilling to sanction Hull's record-breaking move for Long, who had been the subject of a successful £5m offer from the Tigers late on Monday.

After missing out on the 26-year-old, Hull boss Steve Bruce turned to Gedo, who scored five goals in 12 matches during a loan spell at the KC Stadium last campaign.

The 28-year-old returns for a second spell with the newly-promoted club, moving from his native club Al Ahly on a season-long.
