Wolfsburg go six unbeaten with draw against Hamburg

Wolfsburg extend their unbeaten Bundesliga run to six matches as they come from behind to draw 1-1 with Hamburg at the Volkswagen Arena.

Wolfsburg came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Hamburger SV at the Volkswagen Arena tonight and extend their unbeaten Bundesliga run to six matches.

Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoring for the visitors on 20 minutes, but Wolfsburg levelled before the break when Ricardo Rodriguez converted from the penalty spot.

Hamburg took the lead with the help of a mistake from the home skipper and goalkeeper Diego Benaglio, who lost control of Calhanoglu's long-range free kick.

The Turkish midfielder was credited with the goal, but it could later be awarded to Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who ensured that the ball was over the line as he scrambled with Benaglio.

Lasogga, on loan from Hertha Berlin, should have guaranteed that his name was on the scoresheet when he side-footed wide from Tolgay Arslan's cross, less than a minute before Wolfsburg's spot kick was given.

Daniel Caligiuri went down softly under the challenge of Heiko Westermann inside the area and Swiss defender Rodriguez stepped up to bury the penalty into the bottom corner on 31 minutes.

Hamburg came closest to snatching victory, but again failed to capitalise on Arslan's service when Ivo Ilicevic struck the crossbar with four minutes remaining, before an uneventful second half came to an end.
