Wolves right-back Richard Stearman is to undergo surgery on the wrist he broke during his side's 2-1 loss at Everton on Saturday.
The 24-year-old suffered the injury during a tussle with Tim Cahill during the second half of the match. After receiving lengthy treatment on the pitch, Stearman was taken off and appeared to be in considerable pain.
He was taken immediately to a nearby hospital in Aintree and has remained in the North West since the incident. Stearman, who has been an ever-present in Wolves's starting lineup this season, will now have surgery to repair the fracture to his radius.
"It was really disappointing for us to lose Stears on Saturday and more importantly, disappointing for him," said manager Mick McCarthy.
"He's going in to have the operation today where he'll have a plate inserted and we'll know more after the surgery."
Next up for Wolves is an away trip to Chelsea this Saturday.
