Wolverhampton Wanderers cruise past Peterborough United

Wolverhampton Wanderers remain six points clear at the top of League One courtesy of a 2-0 win at home to Peterborough United.

Wolverhampton Wanderers remain six points clear at the summit of League One courtesy of a 2-0 win over Peterborough United at Molineux today.

Second-half goals from Danny Batth and David Edwards proved sufficient for Kenny Jackett's men to stay on course for automatic promotion into the Championship.

Bakary Sako, who has missed the previous two outings with a toe injury, looked lively in the early stages and nearly marked his return to first-team duties with a goal but Robert Olejnik was equal to the fizzing effort.

Michael Jacobs was next in line to try his luck but, after receiving a clever cut-back pass from Sako, curled narrowly over the bar with Olejnik beaten.

Jackett's troops found the breakthrough early in the second half, as Batth rose highest to thump home his header on 48 minutes.

Sako continued to menace in the final third and it was not long before his work helped contribute to Wolves' second of the afternoon. Olejnik could only parry the 25-year-old's fierce strike into the path of Edwards, who turned home the rebound on 68 minutes.

Wanderers could have ended the game as a contest shortly after, but Sako missed the chance to cap an impressive individual display by rattling the crossbar from the penalty spot.
