Gary Johnson: 'I would have kept Yeovil Town in League One'

Gary Johnson admits that he is "disappointed" to have been sacked as Yeovil Town manager, despite the club sitting bottom of League One.

Gary Johnson has insisted that he would have helped Yeovil Town to safety had he not been sacked as manager of the League One outfit.

The Glovers made the decision to part company with Johnson with the club sitting four points from safety, but Johnson, who had been boss since 2012, has admitted that he is disappointed that he wasn't given more time to improve the team's fortunes.

The 59-year-old told BBC Somerset: "I was ready, able and willing to see this through. There was still time. We'd made a conscious decision that we were going to get out of this.

"We needed that bit of time but it wasn't given. The chairman knew I was willing to stay and see it through. With 18 games to go they felt they needed to make that decision, which of course I was very disappointed with."

Assistant manager Terry Skiverton has taken temporary charge of the side.
