Gavin Henson hopes for Wales recall

Gavin Henson still hopes for a Wales recall to the Rugby World Cup despite not featuring for his country since 2011.

Wales utility back Gavin Henson has said that he is still hopeful of being recalled into this year's squad for the Rugby World Cup, despite not featuring for Wales since 2011.

Henson, 33, dislocated his wrist in a World Cup warm-up game against England in 2011 and has not featured since.

Off-field controversies, stints in reality television programmes and injuries have meant that Henson, who has never played in a World Cup, has had a stop-start career.

"I haven't ruled that out. I think I've got something those current players haven't got," Henson told BBC Sport. "I feel I could take our game to a different level.

"I've got to prove that with performances when I'm playing in the Championship [for Bristol], which is sort of frowned upon by the Welsh management. It's going to be tough, but I still hope, maybe the [2016] Six Nations.

"I worry for England, I think they might be going out. I like the brand of rugby they play. Will they be naive enough to try and play like that against Wales at Twickenham? It'll be their downfall if they do."

Warren Gatland is already without three of his first-choice backs with Rhys Webb, Leigh Halfpenny and Halfpenny's replacement, Eli Walker, all unavailable through injury.
