Kei Nishikori books his spot in the third round of the Madrid Open with a 7-5 6-2 victory over Viktor Troicki.

Kei Nishikori has booked his spot in the third round of the Madrid Open with a 7-5 6-2 victory over Viktor Troicki on Wednesday.

Both players held their serve in a high-tempo start, but it was Troicki that broke at 2-3 to take control of the set. However, back-to-back breaks for Nishikori allowed the Japanese to move into a one-set lead.

It proved to be a difficult opening to the second set for Troicki as he lost his opening two service games, allowing Nishikori to move into a 3-0 lead.

The Serbian did manage to break back, but a third successive break for Nishikori allowed him to move into a 5-1 lead, before closing it out in just over an hour-and-a-half of tennis.
