Local favourite Tommy Robredo through in straight sets at Barcelona Open

Tommy Robredo has reached the last 16 of his home tournament thanks to a 6-3 6-4 win over Marinko Matosevic at the Barcelona Open.

The 31-year-old raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first set before Australian Matosevic got on the board.

The world number 70 then got one of the two breaks back against him to make it 5-2 but couldn't mount a full recovery as Robredo served out the set at the next opportunity.

Matosevic started the second set better, saving a break point as he held serve in the opening game to go in front.

He would be broken in his next service game, though, but then levelled the set at 3-3 by breaking back.

It wouldn't be enough as Robredo restored his advantage by snapping Matosevic's serve in the next game before serving out the match.

Robredo will face either 12th seed Marin Cilic or Russia's Andrey Kuznetsov in the third round.
