Mikel Arteta thanks Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers for hailing Arsenal number one Aaron Ramsdale as England's best goalkeeper.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has thanked Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers for his comments towards Aaron Ramsdale after Sunday's Premier League clash.

The Arsenal shot-stopper kept his 12th clean sheet of the league season in the 2-0 win over the Foxes and made a brilliant full-stretch save to keep out Harvey Barnes's goal-bound header.

Rodgers's reaction to the save on the touchline amused supporters, and the Leicester boss hailed Ramsdale as England's best goalkeeper following the defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta echoed the comments of his opposite number ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash with Liverpool, describing Ramsdale's qualities as "exceptional".

"Thanks to Brendan for thinking that way. Aaron has to take those words to give him confidence. I've always said he's been exceptional since the day we signed him," Arteta told reporters at his pre-game press conference.

Only Alisson Becker (15) and Ederson (16) have kept more top-flight clean sheets than Ramsdale - who only has one England cap to his name - in the 2021-22 season.
