Everton vs. Aston Villa: Unai Emery's side looking to set new club record at Goodison Park

Aston Villa will be bidding to set a new club record when they square off against Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Aston Villa have a new club record up for grabs when they face Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The West Midlands outfit make their likely final-ever trip to Goodison Park sitting in eighth position in the standings, albeit just three points adrift of fifth place.

Unai Emery's side have put together a three-match unbeaten streak in all competitions, their most recent success coming against West Ham United in the FA Cup third round.

In those aforementioned games against Brighton & Hove Albion, Leicester City and the Hammers, Villa have failed to keep a clean sheet.

Their last shutout in any competition came back on December 7, when they edged out Southampton by a 1-0 scoreline, but there is a defensive record in their sights when they take to the pitch on Merseyside.

Can Villa make history at Goodison Park?

For the first time in their history, Villa are in a position where they can keep four successive clean sheets in away league fixtures at Everton.

The last three games have featured just the three goals, the most recent occurring almost a year to the day when the teams played out a goalless draw.

Prior to that, Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Buendia scored second-half goals in a 2-0 win on February 25, 2023, while Buendia also netted in a 1-0 triumph back on January 22, 2022.

Overall, Villa are on a five-game unbeaten streak in games to take place at Goodison Park, but that is at clear risk ahead of Wednesday's showdown.

Emery have overseen five consecutive away defeats in the Premier League, Villa conceding at least two goals on each occasion.

That represents their worst such run since the 2015-16 campaign, while Villa have also not kept a single clean sheet in an away league game all season.

Moyes targeting end to Everton run

David Moyes heads into the first contest of his second stint in charge with Everton having failed to win any of their last 11 Premier League matches against Villa.

Despite the lack of shutouts for their opponents, Everton have failed to score in eight of their most recent 10 encounters in England's top flight.

Furthermore, Everton have scored just nine goals in as many league games at Goodison Park, four of which were netted in the same fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
